Position: Developmental Services Worker (Contract Respite Support)

Type:  Contract (2 – 15 hours per week)

Location: Halifax Region, Nova Scotia

Compensation: $20.00 / hour

Are you a caring individual with a passion for supporting youth?  If so, consider working with Shift as a (contract) Developmental Services Worker with our Respite care program. This unique and community-based service pairs qualified and experienced support workers with families and youth around HRM.


  • Working one-on-one with clients in order to provide safe and stimulating individualized care and supervision to children and youth with developmental disabilities, as requested by the parent/guardian (in home and in the community)
  • Network, facilitate inclusion and act as a positive role model
  • Be punctual and reliable
  • Complete reports and documentation as required
  • Maintain communication with the Coordinator and the client’s family


  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in a Human Services related field
  • Demonstrated commitment and care supporting children and young adults with autism, developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities in a support role
  • Mandatory valid CPR, First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and ASIST
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license & have daily access to a dependable and reliable vehicle
  • Must provide proof of $2 million liability insurance
  • Valid and clear criminal reference check, vulnerable sector search and child abuse registry check

Job location:

  • Various contracts available within the HRM.

Hours of Work:

  • Hours vary and will be subject to contract availability (evenings and weekends are typical)
