On October 18th we proudly celebrated Shift’s one year anniversary in Inuvik with a festive open house luncheon.

Welcome Message | CEO, Andrew Middleton

“Thank you for being here and I really wish I was with all of you today. I always enjoy spending time in Inuvik — a community Shift is now privileged to call home — and with people we’re fortunate to call friends.

While our team at Shift has been providing care support services across Northern Canada for nearly a decade, today we celebrate our first-year anniversary in Inuvik, and what a year it’s been!

I remember the first time I met our residents and staff of Billy Moore and Charlotte Vehus. I remember being struck by the spirit of these homes and the sense of love and camaraderie that existed. There was calm and there was laughter, and at that moment I knew that there was a solid foundation we could build upon. And build we did, but we didn’t do it alone.

They say it takes a village. THEY are right!

We couldn’t be where we are today without the loyal support of our community and government partners, Elders, families, friends, and volunteers. Together we’re delivering new approaches to care; growing cultural programming; increasing our hiring of local and Indigenous caregivers and enjoying the best parts of life… together.

I also know that we couldn’t be here if it weren’t for the talented folks I’m proud to call my team. I know this summer’s fires were tough, but as always, they worked alongside this community to mobilize a collaborative response plan, demonstrating leadership across our homes and community at large.

Thank you again for being here today and please enjoy the rest of your visit.”
